Therapists may combine elements from different approaches to best meet the needs of the person receiving treatment.
1
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing.
2
This type of therapy helps spouses and partners understand why their loved one has a mental health disorder, what changes in communication and behaviors can help, and what they can do to cope. This type of therapy can also be used to help a couple that is struggling with aspects of their relationship.
3
Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy that seeks to reduce distress and conflict by improving the systems of interactions between family members. While family therapists often seek to have all family members (affected by the problem) in the room, that is not always possible or necessary.
4
An effective form of therapy in which a small number of people meet under the guidance of a professionally trained therapist to help themselves and one another. There are many different approaches to group therapy, but they share creating a safe, supportive, and cohesive space to address personal, relationship and societal issues.
